Rebel Patches x Generation Soil: Handmade Symbols of Regeneration

Updated: Oct 14

A Collaboration Rooted in Regeneration

In a world ruled by fast fashion and throwaway culture, we wanted to create something different, something that grows meaning instead of waste. That’s how our collaboration with Rebel Patch, a Bristol-based collective of sustainable makers, began. Together, we’ve designed limited-edition sew-on patches that celebrate community, creativity, and climate action. These aren’t just fabric patches; they’re symbols of regeneration, stitched by hand and worn with purpose.

A selection of Rebel Patch x Generation Soil sew-on patches handmade in Bristol from organic cotton, featuring soil-inspired designs.

Handmade in Bristol, Worn with Purpose

Each patch is handmade in Bristol by textile artist Lisa Matzi of Rebel Patch, using 100% organic cotton (300 gsm) and durable polyester thread. Lisa’s craftsmanship reflects the quiet beauty of soil, textured, layered, and alive. Every design is inspired by the patterns of microbial life beneath our feet: the threads of mycelium, hidden roots, and cycles of decay and renewal.

At Generation Soil, we believe regeneration is about more than compost or carbon; it’s about connection.

These patches remind us that caring for the earth starts with what we choose to support, make, and wear.

Sew one on your jacket, tote bag, or gardening overalls and wear your values with pride.

Why We Created the Generation Soil Patch

The idea grew from a shared belief that regeneration should be creative, joyful, and visible.

We wanted to design something our supporters could carry with them, a conversation starter and a badge of belonging.

Each patch features elements inspired by the living soil ecosystem:

  • Swirling mycelial threads representing fungal networks

  • Hidden microbes and roots that feed plants naturally

  • Circular patterns of growth and decay found in every regenerative system

These motifs celebrate Bristol’s local creative and ecological community, from the makers who stitched them to the composters, growers, and educators who embody the spirit of Generation Soil.

The Power of Local and Handmade

In a world of mass production, handmade items hold a different kind of power.

They remind us that care takes time and that regeneration starts small; in craft, in soil, and in community.

By choosing local, ethical products, you:

  • Support small-scale, low-carbon production

  • Keep skills and creativity in Bristol

  • Reduce hidden emissions from global manufacturing

  • Invest in resilience at the same scale we restore our soils

These patches are small acts of resistance against disposable culture and small acts of love for the planet.

A Movement Rooted in Creativity

At Generation Soil, we’re building more than compost; we’re building community.

Our Bristol Living Compost Project helps households turn food scraps into living soil using bokashi fermentation, a microbe-powered process that transforms waste into fertility.

This collaboration with Rebel Patch brings that mission to life in a new way, a way you can literally wear on your sleeve.

Join the Bristol Living Compost Project

Buying a patch or product helps, but the real impact happens when you get involved.

If you live in Bristol, join the Bristol Living Compost Project, our community network turning food waste into living compost for gardens, allotments, and schools.

Together, we’re proving that decentralised composting can make cities cleaner, greener, and more connected.

Why It Matters

Regeneration isn’t a product; it’s a practice.

Every time we compost, plant, or create with intention, we help restore balance.

These handmade patches are more than art. They’re symbols of hope, proof that change starts not with policy, but with people, makers, and soil.

About Generation Soil CIC

Generation Soil is a Bristol-based non-profit turning food waste into living soil. Through the Bristol Living Compost Project, our workshops, and regenerative market gardens, we’re building a circular food system that keeps nutrients local and restores biodiversity across the city.

Every handful of compost we make begins as Bristol’s food scraps transformed through microbes, biochar, and community action. From households to schools and businesses, we help people connect with the soil beneath their feet and the food on their plates.
