Living Compost, Made in Bristol
Our living compost is created through the Bristol Living Compost Project.
Food waste collected across the city is transformed into living compost and returned to Bristol soil, completing a local nutrient loop.
Some people take part in that system through membership. Others support it through a one-off purchase.
Our living compost is made in Bristol from locally collected food waste, processed through bokashi fermentation, and returned to local soil.
Biologically active, rich in beneficial microbes, and produced in small batches. Not industrial. Not sterilised. Made here.
Available in limited quantities. Members of the Bristol Living Compost Project receive a compost allowance included in their membership and a discount on additional purchases.
What makes our compost different
Our living compost is:
-
Made in Bristol using locally collected food waste
-
Produced through bokashi fermentation and aerobic composting
-
Rich in beneficial microbes and organic matter
-
Created in small batches, not industrial volumes
-
Designed to feed soil life, not just plants
This compost sits within a closed-loop system that keeps nutrients in the city and supports local food growing, education, and regeneration.

Who our compost is for
Our compost is well suited to home gardens, allotments, raised beds, urban growing spaces, pots, planters, and community gardens.
It's a good fit if you care about soil health, biodiversity, and supporting local food systems, and if you're looking for compost that is biologically alive rather than sterilised or heavily processed.
Why availability is limited
We are not a large commercial compost supplier. Our compost is made in limited batches from locally collected food waste and returned to local soils.
Inputs are sourced locally, processing is small-scale and hands-on, and time is allowed for proper maturation. We prioritise returning compost to Bristol Living Compost Project members, community gardens, and local regeneration projects first.
Any compost sold here helps fund food waste collection, education, and the expansion of community composting infrastructure in Bristol.
Not the right fit?
If you need large bulk quantities, regular lorry deliveries, landscaping-scale volumes, or the cheapest compost available, commercial suppliers or council-contracted services are likely more appropriate. We're clear about this so we can prioritise quality, biology, and local impact over scale.
Not sure what you need?
Many people start by joining the compost project, attending a workshop, or learning how the system works.
