Generation Soil on YouTube: Our Food Forest Journey

Updated: Oct 13

At Generation Soil, we believe that the way we grow food and care for our environment has the power to transform communities. From composting food waste to regenerating soil health, our work in Bristol is rooted in the circular food system.

Now, we are excited to announce the launch of the...

...where we will be documenting our journey to create a regenerative market garden, improve food security, and inspire change through composting and ecology.

CLICK THE BLUE BUTTON TO CHECK IT OUT!

This channel will act as a living record of our progress, sharing not only the practical steps we take but also the deeper philosophy behind building a circular economy that values soil, community, and nature. Whether you’re a gardener, an allotment grower, a farmer, or simply curious about the environment, our videos are designed to bring you into the story.

Why We’re Sharing Our Journey on YouTube

So much of the food system happens out of sight. Food waste gets thrown away, soil health declines, and people feel disconnected from the land that nourishes them. By using YouTube, we can open up our work and invite people to see the reality of composting, growing food, and building a regenerative farm from the ground up.

The Generation Soil channel will explore:

  • Food waste composting: How we turn local food waste and woodchip into healthy compost, regenerating soil and reducing emissions.

  • Soil regeneration: Why microbes, worms, fungi, and bacteria are the real heroes of the food system.

  • Agroforestry and market gardening: Documenting the creation of our new food forest in Bristol, where we are planting trees, growing vegetables, and building infrastructure like compost bays, a polytunnel, and a seedling nursery.

  • Circular food systems: Showing how food waste can close the loop, feeding soil, which feeds plants, which feeds people.

  • Community and wellbeing: Exploring how connecting with nature improves mental health, builds resilience, and strengthens local communities.

Our aim is to provide knowledge, inspiration, and practical solutions for anyone who wants to take part in building a more regenerative food system.

What You Can Expect to See

The Generation Soil YouTube channel will feature a mix of video styles to make our journey accessible and engaging:

  • Composting tutorials: Step-by-step videos explaining bokashi fermentation, wormeries, hot composting, and how to balance food waste with woodchip for the best results.

  • Behind-the-scenes updates: Candid looks at the ups and downs of setting up a market garden, from sowing seeds to harvesting vegetables.

  • Deep dives into soil science: Easy-to-follow explanations about microbes, fungi, and the ecology beneath our feet.

  • Community features: Stories from volunteers, local growers, and people who are part of the regenerative movement in Bristol.

  • Wildlife and biodiversity: How creating healthy soil and diverse ecosystems brings more birds, insects, and wildlife back to the land.

By mixing education with storytelling, our videos will not just tell people about regeneration – they will show it in action.

Why Soil Matters

One of the key themes of the channel is why soil health is central to everything. Healthy soil stores carbon, grows nutrient-rich food, supports biodiversity, and keeps our climate stable. Without it, agriculture and communities alike struggle. Yet soil is often overlooked.

Through our composting system, we’re tackling this head-on by keeping organic matter in the local food cycle. Instead of letting food waste release methane in landfill, we combine it with woodchip from larch and Douglas fir to create compost teeming with life. This regenerates the soil in our fields and gardens, feeding microbes and fungi that in turn support healthy plants and vegetables.

By documenting this process, we hope to inspire more people to see food waste as a resource, not rubbish, and soil as the foundation of all life.

Building a Regenerative Future Together

The Generation Soil YouTube channel is more than just a place for videos, it’s an invitation to be part of our journey. We want to build a community of people who care about food waste, ecology, and regeneration.

By subscribing, liking, and sharing our videos, you are helping to spread practical knowledge and hope. Together, we can create a movement that shifts how people think about soil, composting, and food systems.

We also want the channel to be interactive. If you have questions about composting, suggestions for content, or experiences of your own to share, we’d love to hear from you in the comments.

How to Get Involved

If you’re inspired by what you see on our channel, there are many ways to get involved:

Every view, comment, and share helps amplify the message that a regenerative, circular food system is possible.

Join Us on the Journey

Launching the Generation Soil YouTube channel is a big step in opening up our work and sharing it with the world. By documenting the creation of our agroforestry market garden, our composting system, and the people who make it all possible, we want to provide a living resource for communities everywhere.

So if you care about soil, food waste, climate solutions, and building a future where communities and nature thrive together, we’d love for you to join us.

About Generation Soil CIC

Generation Soil is a Bristol-based non-profit turning food waste into living soil. Through the Bristol Living Compost Project, our workshops, and regenerative market gardens, we’re building a circular food system that keeps nutrients local and restores biodiversity across the city.

Every handful of compost we make begins as Bristol’s food scraps transformed through microbes, biochar, and community action. From households to schools and businesses, we help people connect with the soil beneath their feet and the food on their plates.
