Bristol Living Compost Project
Composting made easy in Bristol

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rated 5.0 by Bristol members
Turn your food scraps into living compost, without the mess, time, or space normally required.
Most “food waste” isn’t really waste.
It’s just food scraps in the wrong place.
We keep them in Bristol, turn them into compost, and return them to soil across the city.
Nothing disappears.
It comes back to life.
THIS IS FOR YOU IF
You’ve thought about composting, but…
✔ You don’t have the time or space
✔ You’ve tried it and it didn’t stick
✔ You live in a flat or small space
✔ You want to grow food without chemicals
✔ You want an easier way to deal with food waste
This is a simple way to take part.
How it works

It's simple.

1. You collect your food scraps at home
That’s the loop:
Food → Compost → Soil → Food
2. We collect and compost them locally
3. Living compost is returned to you

-

-

It’s already happening.
What It’s Like to Take Part
At home, it’s designed to be simple.
Food scraps are collected in a small, airtight bucket.
No smell. No flies. No mess.
No garden needed.
No outdoor bin required.
It fits easily into everyday life.

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR FOOD SCRAPS
They don’t leave the city.
They are:
-
fermented
-
composted biologically
-
returned to soil across Bristol
Some members use the compost themselves.
Some collect it seasonally.
Some donate it to local growing spaces.
The system is shared, and builds over time.
Why THIS exists
Most food waste is removed from cities.
When that happens, nutrients are lost.
Over time, soil becomes depleted, and fertility has to be replaced artificially.
This project does the opposite.
It keeps nutrients local.
It rebuilds soil.
It closes the loop.

This project was built to do the opposite.
To keep nutrients local.
To rebuild soil gradually.
To create a system that can sustain itself over time.

This is a local system, built slowly, and designed to last.
You Don’t Need to Be Perfect
There is no expectation to do this perfectly.
People take part in different ways.
You can:
Start small
Learn as you go
Ask questions
Take part at your own pace
What matters is participation over time.
Seeing It in Real Life
This isn’t abstract.
It exists physically, in Bristol.
Food scraps become compost.
Compost grows food.
People are part of the process.
You can visit, see it, and take part.
